Obituary

Bryan Nelson Shockey, 56, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on July 22, 2026, after a courageous battle with bone and lung cancer. Born on June 21, 1970, in Denton, Texas, Bryan lived a life full of creativity, generosity, and a deep love for the people around him.

Bryan was a water baby through and through. He loved everything about the water, whether it was swimming, water sports, or just being near it. He was an exceptional swimmer who truly came alive whenever he was in his element. On dry land, Bryan was just as impressive. He was well known for his cooking and baking, and if Bryan made you a meal, you knew you held a special place in his heart. It was one of his greatest love languages. He was also incredibly mechanically inclined, always tinkering in the yard on some project, whether he was building something from scratch or fixing up a motorcycle.

Later in life, Bryan discovered a real passion for painting, adding yet another outlet for his boundless creativity. When he wasn't working with his hands, he enjoyed relaxing at home and watching football and basketball.

More than anything, Bryan was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back. He never hesitated to help anyone in need, and that generous spirit touched everyone who knew him.

Bryan is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Valadez and Julia Valadez; his son, John Valadez; his sisters, Tammy Garcia and Shontel Skurow; half sister, Regina Weir; his nieces, Ahlorra Garcia, Deanna Garcia, Avery Castillo, and Samantha Mathis; his nephew, Luis Mauricio; his dear friend Charles Bynum; his grandchildren, Christopher Hernandez, Chloe Bailey, Jenna Bailey, Miah O'Haver, and Joseph Hernandez; his great grandchildren, Lucas Hernandez and Levi Hernandez.

May Bryan find peace and rest in God's loving care.
