Betty Olds Zumbrun was born in Beaumont, Texas on April 25, 1930, to Oma (MeMe) Olds Criswell and Calvert (Pappy) Olds. She lived almost her entire long life in Texas, shy for the few years she lived in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas. Betty raised her two children in Houston as she worked as a secretary in the oil and gas industry. She excelled in her work, culminating in becoming the Secretary to the President of Milchem, Inc. which was later purchased by Baker Hughes Oil and Gas. She was also a proud member and office holder in the Desk and Derrick Club, the first organization for professional women in the oil and gas industry. Music, singing in choirs, the sand and the sea of the Gulf Coast and boating and fishing brought her great joy. As the years passed, she loved volunteering in hospital auxiliaries - becoming the President multiple times, crocheting, cooking, and becoming a semi-professional floral designer. Yet nothing surpassed her love of family and her dogs. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and husbands James Ray Schoelman (Jack), Charles E. Kelly, Stewart M. Hall and Lawrence (Larry) B. Zumbrun (Pop). She is survived by her daughter Becky Jordan, husband Greg, granddaughter Alexandra Mathis, husband Shanon, great-grandsons Logan and Lucas Mathis, son Steven J Schoelman, wife Kim, grandchildren Stephanie Chambers, husband Jonathan, Zachary Schoelman, partner Jennie Carroll, and step-granddaughter Brooke Grona. Betty passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025 in San Marcos, Texas from Alzheimer's dementia and other natural causes. She was at peace. Special thanks to those at Brookdale South in San Marcos and St. David's Hospice for the love and care they provided. Betty will be interred with her beloved Larry at the VA Cemetery in Killeen, Texas in a private ceremony.
