Bernice H. Walker, age 86, entered into rest September 19, 2009, in Portland, Texas. She was born June 23, 1923 in Selma, California to Ernest and Essie Humphreys. Her childhood years were spent in Comstock, Texas, where she met and fell in love with Herbert Walker. They were married on September 25, 1940 in College Station. Spending most of her life in Del Rio, Bernice was very active in the First Baptist Church and her community. She was an honorary member of the New Century Club and a member of the Val Verde Historical Association. Some of her greatest pleasures in life were visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and traveling with her husband throughout the United States-including many trips to Hawaii "�Bernice was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years. Dr. Herbert H. Walker, brothers Ray, Sidney, and Ernest Humphreys, and sister Julia Faye Arledge. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Judy Loeckle and husband John of Portland, Texas, and Jean Persilver and husband David of Victoria, Texas. Sister, Viola Calk of Texas City, Texas. Also surviving 11-Grandchildren(Rayna,Jennifer,Julie,Shawn,Glorian,Kimberly,Becky,Michelle,RoseMarie,Kathy, Leah)and 20-great-grandchildren,as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Chapel Service will be held Friday, September 25, 2009, 3:00pm, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Westlawn Cemetery.
