Benita "Ama" H. Jimenez, age 91 entered into rest on Thursday January 16th, 2025, in Del Rio, Texas. She was born in Trenton, Texas to Jose and Josefina Hernandez on March 21st, 1933. Benita married her late husband Trinidad Jimenez in October of 1947. Together they had 8 children and spent their early years traveling up North for work. Finally, in 1979 they settled in Del Rio, Texas. Benita learned at a very young age to work hard and tirelessly. She opened her first business in the Summer of 1980, a small diner on Main Street, still known today as Benny's Café. Although she enjoyed serving traditional Mexican food at the small café, she wanted to move in a different direction. She decided to pass the café down to her daughter and has since remained in the family. In December of 1980 Benita and the late Trinidad moved forward and established the well known Jimenez Tortilla Factory, still serving the Del Rio community with fresh flour and corn tortillas daily for the last 44 years. Benita worked until the age of 90. We will mostly remember her for endless and unwearied work ethic. You could always find her working in the factory 7 days a week. On the weekends, Ama would greet everyone while selling her delicious Menudo, Barbacoa, and fresh Tamales.

She is preceded in death by her parents Jose and Josefina Hernandez, husband of 70 years Trinidad Jimenez; her 2 sons Trinidad Jimenez Jr.and Jose Jimenez; Grandsons, Luis Antonio Pena, Gustavo Meza and Armando Jimenez Jr; Brothers, Luciano Hernandez, Antonio Hernandez and Juan Hernandez.

She is survived by her children Maria Elena Pena, Carmen Meza (Heriberto), Armando Jimenez (Blanca), Josie Maldonado, Yolanda Garcia (Jesus), Roberto Jimenez, 15 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. 3 great-great grandchildren. Brother Agapito Hernandez and Sister Olivia Reyna. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 20, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
