Arturo "Manito" de Luna, Sr. age 82, passed away peacefully into eternal rest, surrounded by his family at Val Verde Regional Medical Center on January 13, 2011 in Del Rio, Texas. He was born on January 27, 1928 in Port Arthur, Texas. Arturo was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Carlota Rodriguez de Luna, his infant daughter Elsa Maria and daughter Martha Patricia Taylor, his parents Jose and Guadalupe de Luna and his brother Andres de Luna. Left to cherish his memory are his children; of Del Rio, Doralinda Gonzalez and husband Hipolito Jr.; Arturo de Luna, Jr. & wife Cynthia; and son Mauro de Luna of San Antonio, Texas. He had great love and was very proud of his six grandchildren; Hipolito (Polo) Gonzalez, III & wife Susana; Jorge Gonzalez, Julissa Gonzalez; Amanda, Fernando & Alyssa Nicole de Luna. Also great granddaughter, Paola Gonzalez, brother Gonzalo de Luna, sisters: Lydia Hernandez, Socorro Rodriguez and Carmen de Luna and numerous brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Arturo worked many years in downtown Del Rio as a salesman for several department stores.. After that he began working in the construction field. He worked at the Pecos High Bridge and was a Foreman for the construction of Amistad Dam and the Comanche Peak nuclear power plant in Glen Rose, Texas. Many will have the memory of the concrete work he performed at several residences and businesses. He was known as a very hard worker and took great pride in his work. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him. The family would like to give special thanks to his provider, Maria Martinez, who helped cared for him for the last several years. Gentlemen with the honor of Pallbearers: Enrique Lopez, Fernando Javier De Luna, Jorge Gonzalez, Rick Tobias, Pedro Rodriguez and Gustavo Pulido. Honorary Pallbearers: Steve Tobias, Ruben Tobias, Gonzalo De Luna, Jr., Rigo Alvarez, Jose De Luna and Andres De Luna. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 16, 2011, from 5:00pm-9:00pm at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, Chapel of Remembrance. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, January 17, 2011, 10:00am, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Father Jim Fischler, officiating. . Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
