Obituary

Alonzo Padilla, age 82, entered into rest on Sunday, April 5, 2026 in San Antonio, Texas.

Alonzo Padilla was born and raised in Del Rio, Texas. He was the son of Nelda Padilla. His mother passed away during his early childhood and thereafter he was adopted by his loving maternal grandparents, Pablo and Ofilia Padilla. Alonzo was a proud graduate of San Felipe High School Class of 1963. He left Del Rio for a period and lived in California working different labor jobs including agriculture work harvesting crops such as peaches and nectarines. His love for Texas and his dear family brought him back to Del Rio wherein he met and married his loving wife, Hilda Rocha Padilla. Alonzo worked many years with the Falstaff Brewing Company and with Schlitz Brewing Company as a salesman throughout Del Rio and surrounding communities. Later in life, he provided for his family through his employment with the San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District as a school Bus Driver for 20 years busing students to and from school and to extra-curricular activities. Alonzo was a hard-working husband and father taking on necessary employments to always provide for his family.

Alonzo was a committed father to his daughter, Robina Martinez. Together with his wife, Hilda, they supported Robina, along with her teammates, in all her academic and extracurricular activities, especially with her involvement in sports such as little league baseball and Queens basketball. He also worked together with Hilda preparing delicious tamales which they would sell around town. They enjoyed keeping up this Mexican tradition, as well as, keeping in touch with many friends and family during their deliveries of the freshly cooked tamales. Alonzo also enjoyed family events such as family BBQs, Quinceañeras, weddings, or any community dance event especially when affiliated with his San Felipe Exes organization, of which he was a member for many years. Prior to his illness, he was an active member supporting the organization with attending parades, dances, and fundraising activities sponsored by the San Felipe Exes. His family recalls the deep sadness he felt when he would learn about the passing of one of his fellow classmates or a San Felipe Ex member. A true connection with the loving spirit he had for the barrio where he came from.

The last years of Alonzo's life were lived in San Antonio, Texas where he was able to be close to his daughter, Robina and her family, who together made certain Alonzo was cared for to receive the best medical care and attention during his illness and final years.
