Valentine Valdez, Sr., age 98, of New Braunfels passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016. He was born November 3, 1917 in the community of Geronimo in Guadalupe County to Victor Valdez and Rita Perez Valdez. He married his beloved Tomasita Luna on March 23, 1939. She preceded him in death on May 30, 2009. Mr. Valdez was a long time employee of Mission Valley Mills and also worked for the municipality of New Braunfels prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army in Europe, was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 179, a member of the Union Mutua of Marion, Texas, and a member of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
He is survived by daughters Hope Valdez of New Braunfels and Diana V. Coon and her husband Paul of Dallas; sons Martin Valdez and his wife Ana of Dallas, Valentine Valdez, Jr. and his wife Sidelia, Juan Valdez, widower of Ramona, Domingo Valdez and his wife Sandra, Rudy Valdez and Hector Valdez, all of New Braunfels, Pete Valdez and his wife Rosario of Round Rock, Raul Valdez and his wife Joy of Pflugerville, and Gilbert Valdez of St. Augustine, Florida. He is also survived by his sisters Valentina Luna and Maria Alejos, 13 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A private visitation for family will be held at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel of Faith beginning at 4 pm Sunday, March 20, 2016, with a public visitation to follow from 5 pm to 8 pm, including a rosary to be recited at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 9:30 am at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons Alex Valdez, Roland Valdez, Hector Valdez, Jr., Joseph Valdez, Danny Valdez and Jason Valdez. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. A reception will follow at St. Mary's Hall at Saints Peter & Paul parish.
