Oscar Barrera, of Del Rio, Texas, passed away on September 19, 2020 at the age of 52, after a 4-month battle with Leukemia. Oscar is preceded in death by his father, Humberto Barrera; and brothers, Ray Barrera, Isidoro Barrera, and Pablo Salgado. Oscar was born in Del Rio, Texas, on December 10, 1967. He was married to Sally Zuniga-Barrera on November 29, 1991; they were married for 28 years. Oscar graduated from Del Rio High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor's Degree from Sul Ross State University. He worked as a Peace Officer, Teacher, and Coach prior to his first stroke in 2018. He enjoyed cooking, playing cards, and spending time with family. Prior to his health issues, he was very involved in ACTS and ushering at Sacred Heart, along with Knights of Columbus. Oscar is survived by his spouse, Sally; children, Oskie and Karlizza; mother, Isabel Barrera; siblings, Rosalinda Gonzalez (Raul), Maricela Guardiola (Sergio), Humberto Barrera (Esme), George Barrera (Mona), Alonzo Barrera (Maribel), Maria Isabel Antu, Maricruz Barrera, Gabino Barrera (Norma), and Rene Navarro (Christi); and many nieces and nephews. The funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation at Sunset Funeral Home will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM; Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 and from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on September 24, 2020. Burial will follow the funeral mass at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
