Juan Valdez, age 71 of New Braunfels passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017. He was born June 24, 1946 to Valentine Valdez, Sr. and Tomasa Luna Valdez. Juan married Ramona Castilleja. They were married 36 years until her death in 2013. Juan worked with the Department of Defense until his retirement. He was a member of the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He was also preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brothers Martin Valdez and his wife Anna, Valentine Valdez, Jr. and his wife Sidelia, Domingo Valdez and his wife Sandra, Pedro Valdez and his wife Rosario, Raul Valdez and his wife Joy, Rudy Valdez and his former wife Mary, Hector Valdez and Gilbert Valdez; sisters Hope Valdez and Diana Coon and her husband Paul; niece Loretta Castilleja Courtney and nephew Rudy Valdez, Jr. and numerous other nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 5 PM to 9 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7 PM that evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 27, 2017 at 10 AM at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Upton, Larry Courtney, Rudy Valdez, Jr., Hector Valdez, Jr., Jason Valdez and Danny Valdez. The Valdez family wishes to convey a special thank you to Hope Hospice, Dr. Antonio Alvarado, Dr. Alexander Zweibach, his niece Loretta Castilleja Courtney and nephew Rudy Valdez, Jr. for the wonderful care given to Mr. Valdez during his illness. A reception will be held at St. Mary's Hall following the interment.
