CPL Juan Manuel Alvarez, born July 4,1953 and lost his battle with Covid 19 on August 12, 2020. He is a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin, who was proceeded in death by his father Juan Ortiz Alvarez. He joined the United States Marine Corp and served his country in the Vietnam War from 1971-1975. He was a very devoted United States Marine Veteran who loved his country and his family. He is survived by his mother, Maria de la Luz Hernandez Alvarez; his loving wife of 22 years, Ana B. Alvarez; his stepchildren (Daughter- Vanessa Avalos and husband Jorge Avalos, Son- Miguel Ortiz III and wife Estefania Saint, Ricardo Guajardo Jr and wife Yulissa, Peggy Olvera and husband Victor); grandchildren- Jorge Avalos Jr, Mia Avalos, Bryanna Guajardo, Miguel Ortiz IV, Dulce Amor Guajardo; great grandchild- Camilla-Elise U'ilani Jacobo. He is also survived by his brother- Jose Victor Alvarez (Toti) and wife Vera; sisters- Marylou Rhodes and husband Courtney, Letty Cruz, Martha Maldonado and husband Victor, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Juan was very well known in the community as he previously worked for the City of Del Rio (Water Dept) followed by the flight line at LAFB. He loved to enjoy his retirement by spending time with his grandchildren, participating in weekly discussions on Town Talk, telling many stories (especially about history), fishing, and traveling to the VA to visit with his fellow Veterans. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 15, 2020, 9:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by United States Marine Corps and American Legion Post #595. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Disabled American Vets (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and American Legion.
