Jose Luis Sanchez (Joe), 76 of Del Rio, TX passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday June 17, 2017 at the Main Methodist Hospital in San Antonio TX. Joe was born in Del Rio, TX on August 08, 1940 to Jose P Sanchez and Anastacia De La Garza Sanchez. He attended San Felipe High School and graduated in 1959, from there he attended Sul Ross State University, where he majored in Texas History. He was a passionate man who loved his family and friends. He was an avid collector of many things. His hobbies included Fishing, Hunting and loved teaching Texas History. As a young man he worked with his dad at the Family business "Sanchez Grocery Store" in San Felipe. Joe's favorite conversations were reminiscing about the old days and remembering all the friends in Del Rio and those who had moved away. Joe's favorite sport was football, he played for the San Felipe High School Mustangs and was a trumpet player for the San Felipe High School Band. Joe was a loving Father, Husband, Uncle, Brother and Educator for the San Felipe Del Rio C. I. S. D for 35 years. Joe was extremely loving and proud of his three sons, Jose (Joey) Rodolfo (Rudy) and the late Mark Sanchez (Marky). He is survived by his loving wife Edna Sanchez of 46 years, Sister Mary Ann Gonzalez of Del Rio, TX and many loving nieces, nephews, grandchildren and many friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM; Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
