Pastor Jose Enrique "Kike" Rivera, 67, returned to his heavenly home on November 27, 2017 after a valiant battle with many medical issues. His devotion to his family, congregation, friends and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Pastor Rivera was born to the late Federico Rivera, a World War II veteran, and Alicia Rivera, in Del Rio, TX on April 9, 1950. As a pastor of Jesus Bread of Life Church for over 20 years and an active participant of the Jail and Prison Ministry for over 40 years, he was surrounded in the Christian community and was highly admired by many.
Pastor Rivera was blessed with a large and loving family. He married the love of his life and best friend, Rosa F. Rivera, on June 16, 1968 in El Oregano, Coahuila Mexico. Pastor Rivera raised five children with humor, love, patience, discipline and humility. He raised them to live life to the fullest, to love unconditionally, and to pursue their dreams. He taught them to serve others leading by example and to always seek and put God first.
Pastor Rivera was a disciple of God that thrived on making a difference in people's lives, the community, and correctional facilities. Through his compassionate, kindhearted, and generous ways, he impacted many lives and always made time to help others regardless of how big or small the problem was. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator. He was an example to many and touched the lives of many through his way of using comic relief allowing people to open up and trust him.
Pastor Rivera is survived by his wife, Rosa; his sons Jose Enrique Jr and wife Brenda Rivera, and Jaime; his daughters Barbarita "Barbie" Scott and husband Lamon Scott, Melva N. Rivera and fiancé Robert Perez, and Valvina Rivero and husband Franklin Rivero; his grandchildren Savanah Rivera, Julian Vicente, Lamon Scott, Jr., Joe Anthony "Joey" Rivera, Brianna Rivero, Anissa Scott, Christian Rivera, Jazmine Rivero, Esperanza Rivera, Dezarae Rivera, Antonio Rivera Rosales, and Jose Fernando Rivera; his great grandchildren Joe Anthony Rivera Jr and John Marcus Canales, Jr.; and his brothers, Marcos and Federico Jr.; his sisters Rosa Maria Martinez and Josefina Rodriguez and the many brothers and sisters in Christ. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Barbarita "Barbie" Rivera, Alicia Roman and his parents.
Family will be receiving friends and relatives between 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home; a Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00 PM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Pastor Rivera's life. The family is grateful for the abundant support and condolences they have received.
In lieu of flowers, we are accepting donations to keep his Jail and Prison Ministry alive in which his wife Rosa and son Jose will continue in his memory. Donations can be made at the Texas Community bank under the Jesus Bread of Life Church account.
