Alicia Castellanos Zuniga was born on December 28, 1948 in Del Rio, Texas.   She received her GED from San Felipe High School in 1968 and continued to receive a Bachelor's degree in Education from Sul Ross State University in 1998. Alicia was united in marriage to the love of her life, Enrique E Zuniga III, on October 28, 1967.  They were blessed with three beautiful sons, Reginaldo, Enrique IV, and Jerome.  Alicia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a loving friend to many.  She possessed a generous spirit and a fun, outgoing and loving personality.  She was a band majorette in high school, and loved to dance.  She attended every San Felipe Reunion dance, and marched in the parades with her classmates.   As a teacher, she touched the lives of students of all ages.  She taught grade school, as well as ESL classes at the Southwest Texas Junior College in Del Rio.   Her greatest love was her family.  She was a wonderful mother to her sons, who are proud to call her mom.  She and her husband worked tirelessly to provide a warm and loving home to their sons.  She also enjoyed preparing meals, especially during the holidays.  She hosted an annual Christmas menudo celebration at her home to unite her family and friends. She quietly departed this life on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at Del Rio Nursing home at the age of 71.  She was preceded in death by her son, Reginaldo (Reggie), her father Wenceslao Castellanos, mother Olivia Villarreal Castellanos, father in law Enrique L Zuniga Jr. and mother in law Elidia Escobar. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her husband Enrique III, her sons, Enrique IV and wife Angela, Jerome and wife Mariana, grand-children:  Justyn and wife Elizabeth, Samantha, Sara McGuire, Diego, Antonio and Enrique V, great-grandchildren: Jace Wilson, Charlie and Stevie Mogilski, and siblings, Wenceslao Castellanos Jr. (Maria Esther), Cecilia Padilla (Albert), Romelia Rubio, Norma Rodriguez, and Jesse Castellanos (Corina), and many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 7, 2020 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM; Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 5:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be her sons Henry Zuniga IV and Jerome Zuniga and grandsons Justyn Zuniga, Diego Zuniga, Anthony Zuniga and Henry Zuniga V. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery. The family would like to send a special acknowledgment to the staff of the Del Rio Nursing and Rehabilitation Home. Their dedicated care for Alicia was above and beyond.
